what the frikkadel???

So, the proteas have lost two games in a row against india, when both games looked to have been wrapped up. while the proteas' bowling has been superlative, the batting department has been nothing short of abysmal, with only graeme smith and jp duminy showing some guts and consistency in both games, along with an excellent 50 from debutant faf du plessis in the newlands odi. we seem to have alot of problems, one of which is our batsmen giving away their wickets far too easily. hashim amla is regarded as one of the most solid batsmen in the world, with enormous powers of concentration, yet he has recently displayed the concentration of an ADD kid in reggies. i think the problem stems from the influence of pro20 cricket. in the 20 over format losing wickets is a necessary evil in the pursuit of fours and sixes, but that approach fails when you apply it to the 50 over game. as an opening batsmen you cant be throwing away your wicket in the first ten overs. you have to build an innings, so when there are five overs left and the batting powerplay in taken, the players at the crease are able to capitilise on that. you cant ecpect morne morkel and lobby tsotsobe to try get 3 sixes in the last over. it aint gonna happen. another problem with the team is the failure of the youngsters who have come into the team. colin ingram and david miller just havent performed. ingram was lucky to make it into the world cup squad, miller not so much. i think there are many other youngsters out there who should be given a chance, rilee rossouw in particular. i know vaughn van jaarsveld didnt exactly cover himself in glory last time around, but maybe he needs another chance to prove his obvious talent. shane warnes twin roelof van der merwe can also slog a decent ball, albeit with his eyes closed. another glaring problem is the selectors loss of confidence in albie morkel. sure, he may not be the bowler he was a couple of seasons ago, but we are well covered in the bowling department. when the team gets in schtuk he can smash the ball around and get the momentum back in our favour. we saw the other night how yusuf pathan did exactly that for india. he is a carbon copy of morkel, yet while he is seen as a huge asset to the indian team, morkel has been left out in the cold by the proteas management. perhaps the problem lies in corrie van zyl? maybe he is not the man to lead this team? everybody is saying we're not in a crisis because jaques kallis is out and when he comes back all our problems will be solved but, as great a player as jaques is, he is but one player. he's not the messiah, he cant win every game for us. we cant rely on him to deliver every time he takes the field and just not worry about all the other problems going on. thats not the way to win a world cup. its called papering ever the cracks, and its going to cost us when it matters most. lets not forget, while we are nonchalantly sitting back thinking we'll be fine when kallis returns, we are being beaten on home soil by a team that is hosting the world cup, and who is also missing players such as virender sehwag, gautum gambhir and sachin tendulkar. so who's in the better position? i hope we solve these problems fast, or we're gonna come short on the sub continent ina month
